Incomplete applications will be declined automatically by the system. I recommend that you use a computer or laptop to complete the application. Fields with a red star are required before the system will allow you to proceed to the next tab.
The Annual Report input pages are located on a later tab. It is recommended that you gather your records for data entry purposes before beginning the application, otherwise you will have to restart your application if you were to close the form session.
To comply with LDWF regulations that have been in place for many years a felony background check will be required for all applicants. LDWF Enforcement Division by law can no longer run felony checks for applicant purposes, we however will still continue to run the standard check for wildlife violations. Also any individual whose hunting or trapping license is revoked and are not legally authorized to purchase a trapping or hunting license shall not be able to operate under the authority of a NWCO license.
The felony background check can be completed through the Louisiana State Police Headquarters in Baton Rouge, LA via mail or in person:
Louisiana State Police Headquarters
7919 Independence Blvd
Baton Rouge, LA 70806
State Police Headquarters Phone (225)925-6006
In Person Option: There is a $36 fee that will need to be paid to the State Police to complete this process in person. The average completion time to receive your records is 20 minutes dependent upon the number of applicants present. Once received you can email your completed background check form to wildlifepermits@wlf.la.gov or mail the records to:
Louisiana Dept of Wildlife and Fisheries
Attn: Wildlife Permits Program
2000 Quail Drive
Baton Rouge, LA 70808-9038
By Mail Option: If you live far from the State Police Headquarters and do not intend to drive to Baton Rouge to complete this requirement, there is the option to obtain your fingerprints locally then mail your fingerprint cards, the two forms, and the associated fees to the State Police Headquarters for processing. Please contact your local sheriff's office for fingerprinting locations near you.
The two forms that you will need to bring in person or plan to mail with your fingerprint cards to the State Police Office are attached on a later tab for your convenience. These forms are also available at their office when completing the process in person.
If you have any questions please contact the wildlife permits office at wildlifepermits@wlf.la.gov or by phone 225-765-2975 Monday through Thursday from 8:00AM to 4:30 PM. Please leave a voicemail after hours and we will return calls in the order received.
